Great start for the Arizona teams.
Royals had a clean sweep with 6 wins and Del Sol had four wins a tie and a loss.
It’s odd to see losses like that from Legends but we’ll take it.
Did anyone see any of these games? We’re they competitive?

    Here are the scores.
    U 13
    Royals 1-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 0-4 vs LA Surf

    U 14
    Royals 5-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 2-0 vs LA Surf

    U 15
    Royals 2-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 4-1 vs LA Surf

    U 16
    Royals 7-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 2-2 vs LA Surf

    U 17
    Royals 9-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 4-2 vs LA Surf

    U 19

Del Sol 4-0 vs LA Surf

  3. Legends also plays in ENRL this year, along with a couple other SoCal clubs. I have heard both sides of the story as far as where the top teams will play, but I am not sure which is correct, GA or ECRL. If top teams are ECRL that would explain the easy victories in GA, or AZ is vastly improved.

The more likely option is that these are not Legends top teams. Look at those scores.

We scrimmaged Legends and Beach a few weeks ago. There ECRL teams, which used to be the DA teams. They retained a lot of their top players in both teams. Good games, great competition. Yesterday, we played the Legends DPL team, because thats who is in the league. Night and day difference. Not even close to being competitive. La surf today...feisty..but still..not exactly anything to write home about. Now i seriously understand the conversation we had awhile back with my dd's cc. about the level of competition we would be playing and getting ready for top D1 soccer next year. This is beyind frustrating. And Beach, Surf, Legends, Pats, All have ECRL. Doesnt leave too much.

If the other clubs that have ecRl do the same thing that makes the sw division very weak.

The word is Beach has its top team in ecRl.

Them..and all of the others. Not sure the huge disconnect that happened...but whatever the GA clubs thought\agreed to...is not what is being played on the fields. Im sure a few zoom calls will be happening this week. Hard to promote a product and it is falling way short of delivery.

Solid weekend for our Arizona GA teams.
    Royals went 10-2-0
    Del Sol went 8-1-3
Lots of rumors circulating about teams. A U19 parent told me that Legends said they didn’t bring some of their top players but the parent recognized some of the players on the field from last year. Maybe that’s why GA is not producing rosters.

    U 13
    Royals 2-2 vs LA Surf
    Royals 1-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 0-4 vs LA Surf
    Del Sol 0-3 vs Legends

    U 14
    Royals 1-1 vs LA Surf
    Royals 5-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 2-0 vs LA Surf
    Del Sol 0-2 vs Legends

    U 15
    Royals 2-1 vs LA Surf
    Royals 2-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 4-1 vs LA Surf
    Del Sol 6-0 vs Legends

    U 16
    Royals 3-0 vs LA Surf
    Royals 7-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 2-2 vs LA Surf
    Del Sol 10-0 vs Legends

    U 17
    Royals 9-1 vs LA Surf
    Royals 9-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 4-2 vs LA Surf
Del Sol 2-0 vs Legends (parent report)

    U 19
    Royals 3-0 vs LA Surf
    Royals 4-0 vs Legends
Del Sol 4-0 vs LA Surf
Del Sol 2-0 vs Legends (parent report)

Talked to Legends parents today at Casa Grande. Mix of players on the field. Some injuries but not enough warrant the scores. There is certainly going to be a discussion about how the teams will be truly rostered going forward. From what I was told, Legends is the only SOCAL team in ECRL that is tweaking rosters between the GA and ECRL.

Games weren't even close to being competitive. Last season most age groups split close games.

I spoke with a few GA parents this weekend with seniors preparing for college soccer and they expressed the same frustrations as you.

The spring will be interesting with AZ teams having to play just about all games in CA (assuming CA opens up). Will these seniors want to be out of town every weekend?

Well for these 2 clubs it is apparent that there was a combo of:

A: movement away from the club
B: their better players are in ecRl

We know Beach is doing the same.

If Pats and West Coast have the same thing, then in the SW this league is not as advertised...far from it.

LA Surf was not terribly good last year, but were more competitive vs the above. Legends was generally speaking a very good team. The above scores shows major changes this yr vs last.

Over the past 4-5 months the talk on the So Cal forum has also been that generally speaking there has been movement away from GA to ECNL clubs.

Note the scores at the ages where kids/parents start really thinking about recruiting.

Combined from u16 and older the AZ teams outscored those CA teams 59-5.

If you want to add in U15 scoring the spread was 73-7.

There is plenty of "chaos" (first world problem) in girls club soccer in CA. San Diego Surf has reaped the benefits of it - they are the #1 destination for former "top" DA players. They will wreak havoc in ECNL, no one will come close.

Beach and Legends will wreak havoc in ECRL, likely get accepted into ECNL, then wreak havoc there. It's not good news for some ECNL teams, especially AZ teams.

Pats and West Coast are adamant that their top teams are playing in the GA league - we will see soon enough.

I don't think anyone is saying the SW GA division this year is better than ECNL. By default, with the addition of Surf and others, their talent is more concentrated. ECNL certainly benefits, some teams will not. The ECNL SW division will consist of haves and have nots. Arsenal and Rising are going to have a tough go of it. With that said, there is a great benefit to playing on the road against CA teams - college and YNT scouts aplenty. They don't are who wins or loses.

And we will continue to debate which league is better - which is not a bad thing. Most of us don't really care but it's fun to debate.

I think overall Rising and Arsenal are middle of the pack clubs overall to a bit worse. Some age groups worse, some possibly a bit better.

I think the bottom part of SW ECNL in So Cal are Rebels, del Mar, Arsenal FC, Strikers and Eagles. Overall Rising and Arsenal will compete fine vs those.

They have their work cut out for them vs Real So Cal, Surf, Blues, LAFC and Slammers. Those should be the very top teams. They will be very hard to beat. They just have more talent overall.

I think it is pretty much a given at this stage.

ECNL picked off the top teams from DA last year in this division.

And we know there were/was movement into ECNL.

I think if ECNL is smart they take at the end of the year some of those clubs. That would effectively kill off the main competition in one of their most important regions. By kill off I mean make it clearly defined as to the top league vs the 2nd.

They could pick off a few in the Frontier conference and do the same.

There is no question that the ECNL is a better platform than GA at this point. The CA teams have placed no value in the GA and are sending their 2nd teams over. Legends is not Legends, Beach is not Beach, and my guess is that the other teams that are trying to get into ECNL (Pats and West Coast) will do the same. They almost have to at this point. LA Surf isn't even the the LA Surf from last year. They are some other club team from CA that just took over the name. LA Surf is somewhere else now. This is not what anyone signed up for...and from the way TM was screaming at the CA coaches demanding answers this weekend, one can conclude that even the coaches were surprised at what was sent out here. Big disappointment and leaves you wondering how this ever happened and how did the AZ clubs not know?

It is a big disappointment in some ways. Completely out of our hands, CA is the epicenter of girls youth soccer talent and will drive the train. Those clubs wanting to get into ECNL will find a way. They in turn will drive out clubs in ECNL.

The bigger the ECNL SW conference gets, the more precarious the position is for the AZ ECNL teams. Who wants to drive to AZ to beat up on an AZ team (from a CA parent's perspective). What would save the AZ ECNL teams would be a mass exodus from Royals and SCDS if there is an inkling that the GA will not survive past this year. Could happen if parents think that access to college is being diminished by playing in the GA. I don't personally think that's true but some will think that and will leave.

To your point, it was very interesting to notice that TM was so surprised as to the talent level of the teams that showed up over the weekend. There is normally really good communication between SCDS and their "elite" counterparts in SOCAL. That didn't seem to be the case. We will se how next weekend plays out.

What is the likelihood the ECNL will create a new Desert Region, with AZ, NV, UT and NM?
I don’t see ECNL ‘relegating’ Clubs to make way for Beach/Legends etc - no real history of doing so in the past.

Now it is clear that GA is not going to live up to expectations. Any guess on how many GA players will jump to ECNL mid-season?
