Yes a parent. However parent coaching has the connotation for many that this means unqualified.

My kid is not at Rising. I would say she is more than qualified to coach ECNL. Quite frankly go compare her resume vs Chappy or PT.

I wasn't questioning her credentials in anyway. She is highly qualified. But parent coaching can lead to difficult situations, not only for her daughter but the other players as well.

In the case of the daughter you have to know this going in.
    - For the past 2-3 yrs she has been getting call ups to the national team camps, etc.
    - This year she played on the U15 CONCACAF team that won the championship.
    - Based on that expect the kid to start and play every minute.
    - And when a parent or kid says why does the kid play every minute, as the club I would just point them to the US Soccer announcements of who is getting call ups.
    - So as a parent or kid you know 1 out of those 11 starting spots is locked up all year long (barring injury, etc.).

I guess the further point is.

Normally the concern when a parent coaches is that he/she plays favorites and their kid plays more than they should.

That is where the issue usually comes up.

In this case it is hard to argue that her kid should not be a starter and play the full game.

This is not the point. Parent coaching is not only the parent but the kid. I can see that she is totally qualified and her kid is the awesome but.. any time you have that dynamic it is bad. Even if they do absolutely nothing wrong and are completely transparent and fair, the "perception" will be bad. Kids will think if they say something or come into disfavor of the child (hard tackle, make them look bad) the coach may take it out on them. One of the kids has a sleepover at her friends house (the coach's daughter) and the other parents believe the coach is favoring their child's friend. Nothing good ever comes of this. These situations never occur when there is not a parent coach involved. It's just not professional.

Parents and players whe feel cheated are usually the players that are replaceable so it won’t be that big of a deal.

hmmm .. ok.. so what if the rest of the team starts to feel that they exist simply to develop the "chosen one"? Where she gets extra opportunities that they don't? Likely it will be due to her being the superior player but.. having a parent coach introduces that doubt. Its just not a good idea at older ages. That and from what I have seen of the PRFC parents many of them honestly believe their kid is the best on the team and that doubt could easily become a cancer.

I’m guessing the same thing happened at DA. Parents probably thought she was chosen because her moms a scout for US soccer.

Maybe. I guess we will see how this plays out. Definitely a coup for PRFC to get them.

    Thoughts???? My 2 Cents

I feel bad for those girls who don't start but would get more playing time at showcases, but now with those games having to be won, it does little for over all development and could cause more of those non starters to rethink where they are playing because missing school and hardly playing at these events could get old for some.

    Other thoughts??

the showcase games now, count in the standings towards the end of the season playoffs. the only age it doesn't is the olders @ u18/19 as they don't attend spring showcase, and the format is different for playoffs anyways, with fewer teams qualifying....i don't think that will change with the new format. girls that start will continue to start, and so on....

I do think counting in the standings vs trying to win the Cup are two different things and as I have seen when the playoffs rolled around last year, some players were not even getting into the game.

Ain't going to get better watching others play. Better off going a notch lower to get field time. Just my opinion.
