Yes, majority stayed. Lost only 3-4 players so should be very competitive in APL this season.
I think CCV and Playmakers will be the teams to beat. Both of those teams retained almost all their players from last year. RSL West is their 2010 team, it's not the team that won state last year, they will have an uphill battle playing up in APL. Playmakers did well playing up last year but it was in open league, big difference in competition.
Yes, only lost a few players to MLS and EA so for the most part we still have majority of the same key players. They play well on 11v11, we are excited to see what they do this year.
Arsenal ECNL 09 only lost 1 player to Rising ECNL and picked up a few new players. They played in Surf Cup - in the division under Best of the Best- The lost in the semi finals in PKs against some good CA Competition.
What are the roster size for the MLS and ECNL EA teams? From what I’ve gathered:
RSL MLS =14
Del Sol MLS = 18
Rising MLS = 13
Rising ECNL =13
Arsenal ECNL= 14
RSL EA = 13 and 13
For RSL and Rising MLS, I am assuming that is “Fulltime” rostered and they have another 4-6 “part time” players?
Arsenal has 18
Rising MLS has 15.
Rising MLS 09 has 14 full time on the roster and a few ECNL kids as MLS part time players.
RSL MLS has played well so far this season . Looks like they are most likely the top 09 squad .
Del Sol 09 played 07/08 teams the last couple weeks and managed one goal
Rising MLS lost to Rising ECNL. However, this result doesn’t mean much. Both teams were expected to be pretty even.
RSL MLS 09 team is stacked, I don't see them losing any games to Arizona competition.
Not sure how much we should read into these scrimmages as they are just that, scrimmages. Coaches moving players around trying to figure out their new teams and players. I think Rising and Del Sol have much more new moving pieces and groups of kids who have not played together in the past, so I think you can expect a slower start. RSL I believe is pretty much made up of 2 teams who played together quite often and have been doing MUCH more training throughout the offseason. All that being said, I DO still think RSL is the most talented group of the bunch and don't think it's close. I do wonder how the Espinoza additions will adapt to the Sifuentes style of play that was much different than the Espinoza style who relied much more on the "kick and run" tactic. Just my 2 cents and definitely agree with your outlook as well. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw some pieces move up and down from Rising ECNL and MLS, but we'll see (not sure the logistics and rules associated with this). Not sure what the Del Sol roster looks like yet, though will see them sooner than later... Sure to be an exciting, new experience for the boys nonetheless.
RSL is the strongest group and they also have continuity. They should show somewhat respectably against the CA teams. Rising and DS definitely will be in a “development” mode as a team. It will be painful but they have some solid kids to build on.
Weekend predictions for the 09'MLS groups?
RSL plays City SC out of San Diego on Saturday.
Del Sol plays Rising on Saturday & Chula Vista FC on Sunday
Rising plays Del Sol Saturday & City SC on Sunday
My prediction: RSL 1-0; Del Sol 0-2; Rising 1-1
Any predictions on ECNL 09 Boys. Rising and Arsenal are both in CA playing Beach and Legends.
Any scores from today’s MLS or EA games?
RSL MLS won 3-2 and Phx rising beat SC del Sol 4-0
Rising ECNL 09 0 - Legends ECNL 09 - 3
Rising MLS 09 5 - SC Del Sol MLS 09 - 0
RSL MLS 09 3 - City SC MLS 09 - 2
Arsenal ECNL09 - 6 vs Beach ECNL09 - 1
CCV 09 ended the first weekend at Desert Conference with a record of 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss. AZ as a whole didn't shine this weekend in Utah.
