2 of the 3 weekends have been played. Only two AZ teams with a winning record out of 12 teams on the boys and girls sides (2007, 2008, 2009 age groups). Safe to say Derek Yen at the ASA did a terrible job of picking at large teams to represent AZ. He obviously favors RSL, as there are two major clubs getting completely left out of these age groups. Side note: Due to COVID not all teams have played both weekends and therefore the number of games played isn't equal.

RSL Sifuentes: 3 wins, 2 losses, 1 tie
CCV Courage: 3 wins, 2 losses, 1 tie

CCV Courage: 1 win, 5 losses, 0 tie (only win was against RSL Markette)
RSL Markette: 0 wins, 4 losses, 0 tie. -15 goal differential.

Tuzos Johnathon: 1 win, 4 losses, 1 tie (finished 3rd last year)
RSL Guerrero: 1 win, 5 losses, 0 tie

Boys total: 9 wins, 22 losses, 3 ties

RSL Sabato: 3 wins, 3 losses, 0 ties
AZSC Hammonds: 0 wins, 3 losses, 0 ties

AZSC Johnson: 2 wins, 3 losses, 0 ties
RSL Paulsen: 0 wins, 5 losses, 0 ties

AZSC Gwinnet: 1 win, 3 losses, 2 ties
RSL Perez: 1 win, 4 losses, 0 ties

Girls total: 7 wins, 21 losses, 2 ties

Generally as a whole AZ doesn't do well.

On the Girls side the best are in ECNL or GA.
On the boys side the best are MLS or ECNL.

So talent wise we are sending what can be considered 2nd or 3rd teams to play.

Note. The only age group that did OK was the very youngest age group in boys/girls. Next year that age group ages into ECNL/GA/MLS.

Correct, that is widely known. But those other states are not sending their MLS/ECNL teams either.

eh... Look at the Utah teams. Statewise they are all top teams, especially Wasatch and Surf. Those are the teams that are dominating. Plus Utah is the one state that didn't shut down over the summer and that showed. I don't think any of the AZ or Nevada teams are considered top. Other thing is not many clubs are interested in Desert Conference due to the cost and it doesn't really get you anything. Its a fun thing but not unlike doing out of state tournaments, I don't think all that many teams apply and its usually Thunder and RSL. I don't think they so much picked the teams as chose those that applied.

Doesn't impact Desert Conference but impacts other US Youth Soccer leagues in the U.S.

POSTPONED – December 2020 National League Events (North Carolina & Tampa)

“Given the increasing number of COVID cases, and with the health of our soccer community in mind, the US Youth Soccer National League is postponing both the North Carolina (Dec. 4-7) and Tampa (Dec. 27-30) events.

This postponement includes both the Showcase Series and Playoff competitions for each of the December events. New dates and locations for the rescheduled events are being determined and will be announced at a future time.

With the health and safety of all participants as our top priority, we believe it is not in the best interest of the teams and families to travel at this time. That fact has become evident through the growing number of teams that have been forced to pull out of the events due to cases within their club, travel restrictions put in place by their local and state officials, or similar reasons.

Additionally, the number of teams that have been forced to remove themselves in the recent days has made it difficult for the events to reach the competitive standard that is typical of a National League event.
By postponing, we will be able to reschedule the events to ensure we can provide a safe experience that is beneficial to all participants. With reduced barriers for teams, players, families and scouts, we look forward to providing an optimal showcase environment for you and your team to attend.

Anthony Travel has been made aware of the postponement and will take care of cancelling any reservations that were made through them for North Carolina and Tampa. One of the benefits of booking through Anthony Travel is that all rooms will be cancelled without fees or penalties, and they will take care of those cancellations for you automatically. There is nothing more that needs to be done on your end in order to cancel your rooms booked through Anthony Travel. If any team is still planning to travel and wants to keep their hotel rooms for any reason, please notify Anthony Travel as soon as possible by emailing

We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you on the field in the coming months. We’d like to thank all of our USYS National League families, staff and volunteers, for your ongoing support of USYS as we manage our programming given the current health and travel environment. The safety and security of our soccer community is, and always will be, our highest priority.

    Thank you.

Marley Wilson – Director, USYS Competitions
